i can hear the floor creak when you roll to your side
lift your eyes to meet with mine
i don’t wanna know the time
once i do, i know the moment will end

you said you were going to bed 2 hours ago
but we’re still on the couch
i feel the beat of your chest
it’s dark outside and all the lights are out
each kiss goodnight prolongs
until your lips are resting on mine for minutes at a time

i know the wind outside is chilling but it’s warm here,
the way that we are sitting like a magnet clings to steel
an impossible ideal
